Fritch is located in Hutchinson County, zip code 79036. Only two notable events were cited on the Wikipedia page for this small town of 1,800 people. These were the tornado that struck in 1992, which decimated or damaged over 1,000 homes and properties, and the wildfire that occurred in 2014, putting many residents in shelters.
Lake Meredith, the main source of water for communities throughout the panhandle, sits two miles northwest of the town. Regardless of this fact, residents and businesses in Fritch draw their supply of water from the Ogallala Aquifer. Anyone traveling through the area can access the Lake Meredith National Recreation Center located in Fritch.
Sitting southwest of the town is the Alibates Flints Quarries National Monument. This area features hiking trails located on land with a rich history. Flint, found in the area, was used by Ice Age Clovis Native Americans to hunt giant mammoths.
The town is served by the Sanford-Fritch Independent School District, which educates hundreds of children each year in their schools. These schools include Sanford-Fritch Elementary School, Sanford-Fritch Junior High School, and Sanford-Fritch High School.
Located within the town is an Allsups Convenience Store, as well as Fritch Community Park right across the street. Enjoy a burrito or chimichanga from this esteemed corner store at the local park, a short walk away.
Hiking trails, a swimming area, and campgrounds can be found west of Fritch at Lake Meredith near Harbor Bay. Harbor Bay Trail, South Turkey Creek Trail Entrance, Harbor Bay Campgrounds, and Fritch Harbor Bay are located on a peninsula of the lake that is technically still Fritch.
As of July 14, 2022, Fritch, TX, is officially Film Friendly Certified through the Texas Film Commission. This certification is gained after a town or community undergoes multi-step training that prepares local businesses for working with film crews and other “production-related needs.” The move was made in an effort to continue growing attraction toward Texas for fine arts projects like movies and shows.
