Friona, TX
Friona is a town with a population of around 4,150 located in Parmer County, encompassing the zip code 79035. XIT Ranch established the town as a shipping point along the Pecos Valley and Northern Texas Railroad in 1898 by the name of “Frio,” which is the Spanish word for “cold.”
Located within the town is the Parmer County Community Hospital at 1307 Cleveland St, Friona, TX 79035. Trained and certified in both Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), their staff is able to provide a great amount of attention to their patients due to the incredibly low nurse-to-patient ratio the medical center upholds. In addition to the immediate region, the hospital services New Mexico in the following counties: Curry, Roosevelt, and Quay.
The town has both a Family Dollar located at 809 W 11th St, Friona, TX 79035, and a Dollar General located at 1401 US-60, Friona, TX 79035. In addition to these two convenience stores, a Lowes Supermarket is located immediately northeast of the Dollar General at 1205 US-60, Friona, TX 79035. An adorable home goods store called Milk House Market is on the corner of S Main St. and E 10th St. Several clothing stores, including Creative Chaos, Dos Chixx, and Camilla’s Dream Boutique, are located on or near Main St.
Several churches can be found south of E 11th St, the main road that runs through the town. Among these churches are Sixth Street Church of Christ, First Baptist Church, Friona United Methodist Church, Iglesia Evangelica Neuva Jerusalem, and Euclid Avenue Church of Christ. The City of Friona’s offices are located off Main St, near City Park and next to the Friona Public Library. The Parmer County Pioneer Heritage Museum showcasing the history of the early settlers and pioneers of the area, is down the street from Friona Elementary School on Cleveland Ave.
The Friona Independent School District is made up of four schools that serve the town’s residents. Friona Primary is the Head Start through 1st-grade campus, Friona Elementary School is the 2nd through 5th-grade campus, Friona Junior High School is the 6th through 8th-grade campus, and Friona High School is the 9th through 12th-grade campus.
