The Cheeseburger Capital of the World, otherwise known as Friona, TX was given the title, not due to its local burger stops, but because it lies at the intersection of three industries, these being the cattle, dairy, and wheat industries. Because a cheeseburger must contain all three of these ingredients, its location at the meeting of these areas that are top producing in their market gives it its recognition. Every July, the town hosts its annual Cheeseburger festival and this year, 2022, it will be their 16th one. Vendors can enter the contest by visiting the Friona Chamber website. The contest takes place with 15 teams competing to be “Cheeseburger champions.” The winner of first place will receive an award of $1,000 and second place will get $300.
The contest lasts one day from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and is held at Reeve Lake and the Community Center located in Friona. There are air conditioned dining halls available for guests to sit and dine on some of the finest cheeseburgers in Texas. The teams of cooks will be set up in RV slots and the vendors in a grassy area to distribute food. The Chamber of Friona says this contest showcases “the heart of our community through cattle, grain, and dairy,” and works to raise funds for other city events including the towns Annual Awards Banquet, the Miss Friona Scholarship Pageant, Maize Days, their Fourth of July Fireworks show, and their Christmas in the Park celebration.
When visiting for the Cheeseburger Festival or passing through the “biggest small town in Texas” in a mobile home, the Friona RV Park is great for camping, both overnight and for extended periods. The small RV park is located at 1944 Farm to Market Rd 2397, Friona, TX 79035 and is a full hookups campground. It sits right outside Friona city limits and is just a drive away from other towns including Bovina, Dimmit, Hereford, Farwell, and Muleshoe. The sunsets in the region are breathtaking and the quiet atmosphere described on the Friona RV Park’s website is enticing.
The campground offers full 30 and 50 amp electric hookups as well as free wireless Internet access. There is also septic, water, and trash available at the RV park making it a great option to stop for a rest or camp for a while. The farmland and beautiful skies make for quite the scenery and a serene place to relax. The RV park is fairly small and only has six spots available for hookup so interested parties must call ahead to reserve a space.
If you are planning to stay in your RV at the Friona RV Park for a full month, the cost is $500 which includes a 30/50 amp electrical hookup, wireless Internet, septic, water, and trash. Weekly rates are $150 and daily rates are $25 and both include the same amenities as the monthly deal. The park is also near Clovis, NM in case visitors want to have a New Mexico adventure.
